Community Proposal for Parcel 20517125 Development

Residents in the Nations Ford/Arrowood area propose the following plans for the 15-acre parcel at the corner of England and E. Arrowood:

1. Creation of a Community Park

  • Request that the City of Charlotte sell undevelopable acres from Parcel 20517125 to Mecklenburg County for $1.

  • Mecklenburg County would then develop a park featuring:

    • Basketball courts

    • Soccer fields

    • Playground

    • Skate park

    • Pickleball courts

    • Outdoor amphitheater

  • This park will provide essential recreational and gathering spaces for families and youth in our community.

2. Non-Profit Hub in Mixed-Use Commercial Spaces

  • Designate a portion of commercial spaces within the development for non-profits serving our community, such as:

    • ourBRIDGE for Kids

    • Despierta

    • Transforming Nations Ford

    • Urban League of Central Carolinas' Alternatives to Violence Program (ATV)

  • Offer subsidized rent of $1 annually for these organizations to ensure their resources remain accessible to residents.

  • These non-profits offer intergenerational programs supporting education, violence prevention, and community well-being, fostering a region where every individual can thrive, regardless of background or circumstance, within the 28273, 28217, and 28210 zip codes.

This proposal is designed to maximize community benefit by providing much-needed recreational facilities and essential support services that empower and uplift local residents.

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?

This initiative is significant as it addresses the needs of the youth population and the high rate of violent crimes in the area, which is significantly higher than the county average. Tailored support through these non-profits ensures everyone can thrive regardless of background or circumstance
